Americans still understand Reconstruction poorly, and recycle century-old, warped interpretations of it - exhibit #59,324 🗃️
From 1865 until 1877, the post-War South was under federal military occupation. The white population of the South had to renounce the Confederacy in order to regain US citizenship. This process became more complicated during the eight years US Grant was president. In the post-War South, the white population was divided into two factions - the so-called scalawags, white Southerners who supported Reconstruction and denounced what had been the Confederacy and those who wanted to redeem the South from Union control. https://www.valleytimes-news.com/2025/01/the-lost-cause-historical-society-to-discuss-civil-war/

Egyptian Blue Bes ceramic Statue from the British museum shop, kind of looks like a tiny suspicious bear? He's adorable A middle Egyptian turquoise hippo from the met. He looks despondent and adorable. He has line art of reeds painted on his back and face. A ceramic baby rattle from the met shaped like a pig. However it doesn't look much like a pig, it's giving creature saying ooooooo. It's adorable. Little red earthenware bowl from the met. It has two little humanoid feet on the bottom and looks like he's standing shyly. Adorable.
