Health services should be co-produced with patients. ‘We see things you don’t see; we know things you don’t know.’ Strategically and financially, you’ll get a better product, faster and more economically. If you build it without us it’ll either be crap, or you’ll have to fix it.

@nkca-natcan.bsky.social How weird is it that I’ve never been offered a Cancer Care Review? I was diagnosed nearly 24 years ago and have had numerous hiccups and diagnoses for mets over the years. Not once has my GP offered a CCR.

‘Appendix B’ is a get-out clause allowing Network Rail to avoid providing accessibility in the vast majority of station refurbs. If there’s a step-free station within 50 km (!!) they only have to create ‘passive provision’ for lifts to be fitted in the future. I think we know how that’ll work out.

Wonderful 1950 letter in which J. Robert Oppenheimer very patiently explains to Eleanor Roosevelt that flying saucers do not exist--and tells a funny story about human fallibility, and how all the Los Alamos scientists tried to get the local Air Force base to shoot down a UFO.
![Letter from May 19, 1950. I'm just going to quote the relevant bits. "The papers [about UFOs sent by Roosevelt to Oppenheimer] all start with the assurance that there are such things. This, of course, I do not believe. ... There is not any credible evidence; and certainly the kind of explanation proposed [in the papers] does not lead one to believe in the phenomenon they are trying to explain. There is perhaps one thing one can learn. It is not just that men, and even their accounts of what they see and experience, are fallible and subject to error; it is that arriving at the truth can often be a more difficult and troublesome thing than we like to think. During the war, very shortly before the test of the first atomic bomb, people at Los Alamos were naturally in a state of some tension. AI has lots of brilliant uses, not least in speeding up medical diagnoses.
What worries me about AI is the kinds of ‘worlds’ it will create based on historical data sets (science, arts, culture, history etc) that assume that only MEN have ever done anything of note.
