Children are not property. Parents do not get to do whatever they want to them and claim it's fine because it's their child and that no one has any right to butt into their private family affairs when what they are doing places their child in danger. Children deserve better.

2. This is what I mean when I say that pregnancy has been the most politically radicalising thing to happen to me since the Iraq War. I think so much about authoritarianism can be explained through the lens of power over and responsibility for children.

I've been thinking about the fact that in a few months there will be a human being in the world over whom I will have almost total power. I will be able to deny them medical care, restrict their self expression, and physically hurt them, for 18 years. But in 14 he could be tried as an adult in DC.

Pleased to report that the policy at the CVS across the street from me seems to be to treat RFK Jr. the same way they treat shoplifters i.e. ignore them. Husband and I got a covid booster no problem.

As someone who is currently pregnant and depressed, knowing these people are in power is making the second thing there much much worse.

I live a few blocks from LA City Hall. I cracked my phone last week and dropped it off to get repaired at noon. I had absolutely no idea anything was going on until I got it back at 6pm.
