Spooky scary tesla coils
Pinned
hey! I'm Erty and I'm into

halloween / spooky stuff
game dev
diving and marine life
animation
cold weather

I used to build tesla coils and other cool things but these days I'm mostly doing game modding and learning to play the guitar
sometimes people show or tell me about stuff they made using my M2P and it's so cool and amazing. I made a simple tool other people use to make great stuff with. they keep surprising me with what they use it for

The way the press is treating chatbots, like they have agency and they “know” things all of a sudden, crossed the line recently from dumb and obsequious to something else entirely. Treating them as alive and making conscious decisions is an almost religious belief. It won’t age well.

The Creature™ really likes it when I try to play Stand By Me on the guitar (just now she even got sad and started crying if I tried practicing any other songs), looks like I have to learn more than just the chorus and keep practicing that one 😅

using the term "brainrot" for things kids these days are into, well sure, fine, but then it should also be used for other things it perfectly applies to, such as using LLMs to do the thinking for oneself, or watching stuff like fox news

Funny animal videos no longer being trustworthy just fucking sucks all around. I love the wonder of animal behavior and what it says about the experience of being alive. It's because it happened in reality that it's so fun. It's not fun if it was just made up. There's no wonder there.

Considering how well known the idea of using "think of the children!!!!" as moral panic to control people is, it's really alarming how many people still consistently fall for it.

"you have not played the game unless you've played the game" is one of my more annoying but unshakable opinions
the whole "don't play the game, just watch a video on youtube that will explain its story to you" is so disheartening because the issue of accessibility is genuinely really important but it's always just people who want to be spoon-fed nicely quantifiable information

It’s widely known (and, I think, pretty uncontroversial) that learning requires effort — specifically, if you don’t have to work at getting the knowledge, it won’t stick.

Even if an LLM could be trusted to give you correct information 100% of the time, it would be an inferior method of learning it.
Relying on ChatGPT to teach you about a topic leaves you with shallower knowledge than Googling and reading about it, according to new research that compared what more than 10,000 people knew after using one method or the other.
