After about a week of being here, I should introduce myself: a resident of Vancouver, birder, and retired a couple years ago.
My profile pic is my (late) sweet Bamboo. I can no longer have a cat, so I enjoy the ones I know or meet here immensely! Not overly political, but very interested.

I suspect the real reason Trump is threatening to pull out of the Canada-Mexico-US trade agreement is because Carney and Sheinbaum haven't offered to pay Trump protection money. I prefer we let it lapse, or risk being complicit with his regime's murderous behaviour.

According to a new study, members of Congressional leadership perform 47% better in stock market trades than their rank-and-file peers, thanks to access to nonpublic information.

Today would be a great day to ban ALL elected officials from trading stock, don't you think?

Fascinating: who knew your nostrils detected smells separately? And, why did I never ask this basic question of why two nostrils instead of one big hole?

Yes, an invasion is probably imminent. Project 2025 warned us. Those people who signed up for the US military thinking it would be a piece of cake because they believed Trump doesn't want the country embroiled in foreign wars will soon join the list of what Trump calls 'suckers and losers.'
In major breaking news this week, horrifying leaked video footage links US "Secretary of War” Pete Hegseth to international crimes. Let’s talk about it in Episode 191. 👉 youtu.be/ZOGh7CduRNk?...

It's called "co-generation" and we've known about it for decades. Why aren't we using it to provide people or animals with heat instead of releasing into the environment?
Data centres are energy hungry but what if we could use their waste heat to heat our homes?

That's exactly what happens in places like Finland: Cities are tapping the vast amounts of waste heat generated by data centres, and feeding it into district-heating networks.

You want to make fun of Pete Hegseth in a cartoon, but you can't draw? I would rather your stick figures than AI. Just draw.

I'd like to see the same size chunk represented on the west coast. I wonder how the US would fare without California, the fourth largest economy in the world. If the west coast were to want to join Canada, I would not be opposed (but leave your guns behind!)

Ah, I wish someone in Canada had the cojones to say this to Hoekstra. It would be interesting to see his reaction. After all, can he condemn it if Trump did it?

Energy transitions can happen faster than we think:

In 2000 almost 90% of Denmark's electricity was from fossil fuels.

In 2024 less than 10% of Danish electricity was from fossil fuels.
