I witnessed release of detainees (uncharged) from Whipple for first time. Weird, surreal ritual. ICE agents walk out w someone, hand over to volunteer. Without the volunteers, detainees would be dropped on street in subzero w/o any of their possessions including the jackets they were arrested in

Re The Atlantic, whose story I posted last night: this is exactly right. I have pilloried them (search my handle & Atlantic) but their reporter wasn’t here to advance the anti-progressive project. So at a critical time, his work helps buttress a popular front. No illusions mag has otherwise changed.
People’s wariness about taking to the media is justified, and it wasn’t until those outlets started treating what’s happening like a war against a community and not a both-sides political conflict that the tenor of the coverage, and the question of if people should talk to the media, changed.

Ppl keep asking me what it's like here and like obviously there is tension. I walking around w my passport when I shouldn't fucking have to and watch my community get assaulted but I also say it's push-pull bc I have never more strongly felt these are my people. These community bonds are so strong.
On the ground here in Minnesota, it’s hard to reconcile the immense bonds of community that have been built in a week with the fact that we live in a country whose government appropriated billions of dollars to an unaccountable paramilitary force whose sole purpose is ethnic cleansing.
