In the century leading up to 1975, nearly 6000 freighters went down in the Great Lakes.

The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last.

The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes.

Why?

It's NOAA. Of course it's NOAA.

cat knocked over half a glass of water while I was out that stayed on the wood table for several hours and the latest tech is apparently an iron and dishcloth for a recent stain

I don't have an iron (heathen, I know) but I did find yet another thing a cast iron skillet can do (it worked)

C'est une injustice tellement injuste, c'est absurde.

as happens every year there was a brief conversation in this house about why do we live in a place this dark and cold and the verdict was one of us is from a country entirely at high latitudes and the other is from a place that includes hawaii and california but wants its citizens to die

truly a special place especially to see year after year as the river rearranges things with varying degrees of drama
Made it to one of my favorite places this weekend, the Whitewater Preserve near Palm Springs. Whitewater River is a gem.

I'm single. No kids, no claims, no pre-existing conditions. The cataclysmic leap from paying $50 a month to $1,228.28 a month is a level of devastation the depth of which I'm struggling to articulate. I wasn't going to be able to afford when I thought it was going up to $350 a month. And now...😵
I thought my new health insurance premium was going to be $350 per month until I got this letter informing me that it would be $1,228.28 PER MONTH. I CURRENTLY PAY $50. Is my math mathing? Is that.... a 2,356.42% increase?

2256.42%????

TWO THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED FIFTY SIX POINT FORTY TWO PERCENT😩

Another point of view on the politics happening tonight, with an emphasis on the House.
Folks, we need to have a little Civics #101 chat, because apparently the media no longer seems fit to explain to you whats happening.

So quick review:

The House passed a clean CR.

The senate has not passed anything.

I don't know what the Senate is going to do. But if they do in fact fold in exchange for nothing, they will be living up to past performance. To expect the Senate to carry out the will of the American people is to misunderstand why it was created in the first place.

it's nicknamed the "new york escape route" and it means this pilot found a window that got everyone there faster by using less congested lower-altitude airspace rather than waiting, and it cost the airline more money burning way more fuel
Things are fine.
