yeah! It's messy so I'll go explain it privately instead of shaming myself publicly

this is a really annoying roadblock that I didn't consider and am not sure how to get through. damn.

thought of making each horizontal strip of tiles an object or layer, but that doesn't work either, because isometric depth can't be based just on y position, the same y position can be behind or in front depending on the x... how do I account for that without each tile being drawn individually??
December 16, 2025 at 8:26 PM
...oh. turns out I don't know how to make depth work for isometric tiles. other than making each tile an object or something (not feasible, as the number of tiles on each level is six digits long.

Best I can do is 2:16 🥲
December 16, 2025 at 2:48 PM
Love it! Haven't beaten it yet, but it's super addicting.
December 16, 2025 at 1:45 PM
Alright, tiles still need actual art, but other than that I think I'm done converting the actual code to work with isometric tiles!
December 15, 2025 at 11:13 PM
...okay, we're doing this.
December 15, 2025 at 6:31 PM
but also a week ago I didn't know how to generate this kind of procedural level either and now that whole thing is working great, so............ maybe......?? ......maybe....?
December 15, 2025 at 10:38 AM
had the thought that the game would look really good with isometric tiles and they would make more sense in relation to the characters' perspective... but also..... that would be an insane amount of work in the best case scenario and I haven't even made a single isometric tile in my entire life

New level up screen! You can now see move info before choosing which move to forget.

linux is great, switching was wayyyy easier than I had been led to believe it would be. only needed a couple days and a few tweaks to get used to it and there are zero things I miss from windows, can't really see myself ever using anything else from now on

Looks great!
December 13, 2025 at 10:58 PM
Oh, and I reworked this move yesterday. I like how it came out.

The dizzy lump of coal is a placeholder for the knocked out animation - the critter with the lying on its back animation shouldn't be going into it at all. I can't find that moment in the video, though. (but there's one that didn't properly spawn its dizzy stars, so I'll go look into that at least)

Thank you!

Pretty happy with the change from room-based gameplay to large procedural levels, although now I want to think of more cool things to populate these levels with. Other than that, the next step is to add more content (moves, abilities, etc) and actually start animating the player and other critters.
December 12, 2025 at 7:22 PM
you know what, I'll take it! good way of looking at it.
December 12, 2025 at 2:59 PM
fully agreed and I wish I could do it more, but all the time I would spend gaming has been taken up by being gay and making games in my bedroom 🥲
December 12, 2025 at 10:40 AM
I'm not sure, but thanks for asking!
