Puerto Rico hasn't had reliable power in a decade.

The grid sends occasional surges through the wires that fry appliances.

Electricity rates are among the highest in the entire U.S.

Heat waves are getting intense in the summer, and outages mean A/C is no guarantee for an aging population.

🚨HOLY CRAP. An ICE whistleblower just revealed a secret memo authorizing ICE officers to break into homes without a judicial warrant, which DHS's own legal training materials say is unconstitutional!

ICE then hid the memo from the public, passing it along by word of mouth and private conversation.

Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) models surpassed the skills of humans in the 1960’s in the same way that IBM’s Deep Blue beat the world’s chess champion (Garry Kasparov) in 1997. NWP is a great tool in a forecaster’s tool box. This “chat” from NWS Birmingham shows why uncertainties still exist:

A memo was released by ICE instructing agents to violate the U.S. Constitution. ICE told officers and agents that they can forcibly enter homes without warrants signed by judges. The memo was from ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons, was shared with Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn) by two whistleblowers.

When a country with the world's strongest military, including nuclear weapons, puts a mentally deranged person in charge, it threatens the safety of the entire planet. The election of Trump was one of the most reckless acts in human history.

I just want to emphasize for Texans that with the potential of wintry precipitation this weekend there is a lot of uncertainty and that is likely to continue for several days. Last year’s forecast looked like snow from the beginning which was easier. This looks not like snow, more difficult.

This is completely fucking unacceptable. Shut this terrorist government down until it stops brutalizing its own citizens.
Today at 34 & Park in Minneapolis, a woman tried to drive down the street where a protest had broken out in front of a home ICE was raiding, saying she had a doctor apt to get to. ICE agents busted out her windows, cut off her seatbelt, and pulled her out before arresting her.

Now that Trump says Venezuela will hand over 30-50 million barrels of oil, with proceeds of sales to be controlled by him, I want to reiterate: He's inviting our oligarchs to reap great riches by buying into his scheme of imperial hemispheric domination.

What is just crazy about this, aside from the need for this statement at all, is that Greenland already IS in the US sphere of influence. It's far cheaper for the US, in material, security, and reputational terms, to have Denmark continue administering Greenland and work within NATO on security.

Trump talks about how he has the right policy but blames the mind of the public for rejecting it. That isn't democracy; it's authoritarian populism. In a democracy, the public judges the leaders. In autocracies, autocrats judge the public. #holdfast
Trump to House Republicans: "Most of you are in this business longer than me. That makes me smarter than you. Because look where I am, right? No it doesn't. But I wish you could explain to me what the hell is going on with the mind of the public because we have the right policy."

I want to make sure this is very clear.

In 2026 I want all of the decent people to remember one thing.

You aren’t meant to be this disciplined, this self-sacrificing to survive. The environment is supposed to support good living. We can have that. You are not a failure. That is politics.

That is all.

This concern is appreciated and warranted, but to clarify: 3 out of 9 regional Climate Adaptation Science Centers have had their funding frozen (DOI won’t approve their 5-year renewals). 6 regional CASCs are still (mostly) funded. We haven’t given up on restoring funding for the full network.
You probably heard the US admin is threatening to break up the National Center for Atmospheric Research: but did you know they already froze funding for the 9 regional Climate Science Adaptation Centers? From tracking invasives to helping tribes with drought, here's why the CASCs matter ⬇️
From invasive species tracking to water security – what’s lost with federal funding cuts at US Climate Adaptation Science Centers
The people who manage America’s aquifers, wetlands, shorelines and recreation areas rely on federal science as they face new and rising risks in a changing climate.
