Consumer spending in nearly 70% of the U.S. economy. When those consumers get laid off, our economy never does well.

When wealth disparity is so high, our country never does well.

I've witnessed this over and over again since Reagan, Boom-bust, boom-bust.

FDR had answers. Nixon had lies. #SOS
Amazon announced 14,000 layoffs. Its CEO made over $40M last year.

UPS announced 48,000 layoffs. Its CEO made over $24M last year.

Intel announced 20,000 layoffs. Its new CEO's pay package is valued at nearly $69M.

This is what I mean when I say the system is rigged.

made a similar point on the opinions podcast this week in response to the idea that epstein is a dead end. not only are actual voters interested in this but it divides the gop and puts pressure on the president. it would be political malpractice to treat it as a sideshow
The usual suspects are telling Dems that Epstein won’t win elections, get back to “affordability” and I think my head might explode. www.offmessage.net/p/force-a-re...

It breaks my heart imagining how Rockwell would painfully depict the scene today with ICE goons putting zipties on small children (some citizens) while backed up by National Guard who shouldn't be there (and probably don't want to be...).

65 years ago on Nov. 14, little Ruby Bridges was escorted into an all-white elementary school in New Orleans. Norman Rockwell, renowned for blissful depictions of Americana, did this remarkable painting for Look magazine. Printed as a double page, over-size spread, it's his masterpiece.

🤯... 💯for sharing, @joshtpm.bsky.social , but the highlighted phrase is just another peek at the twisted mind of the author... humor, perhaps, but there is no solace from knowing what MTG still defends than there is from watching JDV position himself as a more articulate version of DJT.

TRUMP: We’re going to give Americans the money to buy health insurance

REPORTER: But won’t they buy it from
Insurance companies?

TRUMP: Ahhh. Some may. I mean they’ll be negotiating prices
November 15, 2025 at 1:12 AM
How about "willfully ignorant"? 😠
I no longer use "moron"

So I will not say that a person—a Fed governor!!—who claims that immigration has been a major source of housing inflation is "a moron."

Instead I'll say that he is "uninformed" about home-construction biz, median rent or purchase prices from immigrants, etc

Also, a bigot.
Fed Governor Stephen Miran: "Cutting down net migration to 0, potentially even negative because of the deportations that have been occurring, I think is very deflationary."

Someone is clearly trying to position himself as a more articulate if equally ignoble Mad King...

... and considering the next post in this timeline, perhaps JD has his PressSec lined up already.

h/t @jfallows.bsky.social for both
If Vance believes this, he is an idiot.
(Hint: The most inflated real estate is !!!NOT!!! where immigrants are concentrated.)

If he knows how stupid this argument is, he's a tool.

Take your pick.

In his defense, he once called Trump "America's Hitler."
JD Vance: "A lot of young people are saying housing is way too expensive. Why is that? Because we flooded the country with 30 million illegal immigrants who were taking houses that ought by right go to American citizens."

To be fair to serious real estate developers... 🤯

Thank you, @theauthorguy.bsky.social
Westfield Center in downtown San Francisco is mostly vacant, too, but not because of crime. Because of Amazon. How is he in commercial real estate and not know this? Then again, he's president and doesn't understand how tarriffs or buying groceries works.
November 11, 2025 at 6:25 PM
So, what's likely? Whether 300B or 3T, will he order the importers be reimbursed and then "hope" consumers who paid for the tariffs will see some of that?

In any case, he's setting the stage for another Big Lie when recessionary numbers and unemployment become even more obvious.

😠
Oh, so he totally stole the money

Any bets on how long it will be until the WH revives the "well regulated Militia" language in the 2A to justify the power to *deny* the right to bear arms to some individuals and groups?

attn: @radiofreetom.bsky.social
New:

On The Gateway Pundit's podcast yesterday, Stewart Rhodes announced he's relaunching the Oath Keepers

He also urged Trump to “call us up as a militia" & "order us all to come together in our counties under his command."

Agree with this.

About to publish something on the airplane mess. But this too is ON THE REPUBS. It is not a reason to cave. Dems, it is a time to keep standing up.
Opening the government with no concessions from GOP merely to alleviate airline cancellations - when Congress has been dragging its feet for years on chronic FAA staffing issues - is a lame ass choice.

Also, doing it while the House refuses to work is appalling.

PS: thanks for your insights on the growing snafu in air travel. Now doubt here that the controllers will try to keep things flowing, but they cannot be expected to be indifferent to their depleted bank accounts as their pay is withheld...
I have questions.

How does anyone make a million dollars out of a $55K a year job? Much less 20 mil?

Why are a bunch of people dependent on the Federal Government for jobs voting for Congressmen that can't get a Bill passed? Reps. that "hate" government?

I guess they don't listen to the lyrics.

I understand why we shut down American airspace for a few days after 9-11 to avoid a repeat attack but imagine shutting down American airspace to avoid releasing the Epstein files.

Today, Mike Johnson will keep the House adjourned for the 95th day out of the last 107.

12 days of work in 107 days.

With full pay and benefits.

The senate has been working, so this is not about the shutdown.

It is about avoiding a vote to release the Epstein files.

A wonderful review and concise summary of a well-done and tremendously important work.

Thank you, @garrettepps.bsky.social and Jill Lepore...
The result is generous, original, and fascinating—de-emphasizing the stories of the so-called Founding Fathers, and forwarding those of ordinary people, some of whom made constitutions of their own. We the People is also profoundly, indeed joyously, subversive.

Constitution in Progress
In We the People, Jill Lepore argues the Constitution isn’t the parchment paper, but the evolving democratic imagination of the people.
