The "something new" (imo) is a sorting of many American Christians (plus some non-Christians...) into a supra denominational cult that is indifferent to the liturgical labels as long as one exalts MAGA principles.

This is an astute observation.

I grew up in a town that went for Barry Goldwater in 1964 and had John Birch society chapters. It was rife with conspiracy theories: JFK as agent for the Vatican, LBJ as 'Landside Lyndon' (and worse) etc.

But Fox et al have empowered something new.

I've said this before, but one of the more striking things about the current generation of righties is that they really show no sign of understanding that there's a world *beyond* their screens, beyond owning & being owned on social media. A real world, with real people & real problems.

Three years ago today, @neildegrassetyson.com asserted on “Real Time with Bill Maher” that unlike atomic bombs, “… modern nukes [thermonuclear bombs] don’t have the radiation problem … not in the way we used to have to worry about with fallout and all the rest of that.”

This is completely wrong.

The biggest story you should read today is that dozens of federal judges are willing to talk about how alarmed they are by SCOTUS’ willingness to step in on an emergency basis and allow the Trump Administration to do things that seem illegal. Their candor is unprecedented.

... plus all the other public safety agencies decimated by Trump, Vance, Musk, and Vought: FEMA, FDA, EPA, etc... not to mention DOD, DOJ, and the FBI (whether you like them or not, most of their lifers are patriots).
