One difference between copyediting and proofreading: Copyediting always comes before proofreading. ✍️ ➡️ 🔎

My video explains why.

If you pay for proofreading before your novel's been copyedited, you're wasting your money.

My focus is on mysteries, so this wouldn't work for me. But if someone out there could use a guest blogger who specializes in romance novels, here's your chance.
If you are a #freelance #editor and/or #blogger working with #selfpublished #writers of the #romancegenre , I'm open to writing guest blog posts or giving interviews by email. Find out more in the image below.

Do you mistrust articles with em dashes?

Some writers avoid them due to the constant claims that they are AI. But these useful punctuation marks have existed long before AI.

I get not trusting articles that have em dashes wildly tossed around. But what about articles that use them properly?

What causes writer's block? How can you deal with it?

It took me a week of indecisiveness and restarting my blog several times to finally decide to write about what all writers struggle with: writer's block.

Writer's Block: Causes and How to Conquer it
When I began working on my blog last week, I encountered something we all struggle with when writing: writer’s block. 🤯 By the time I settled on an idea, I was running of time, and because I need to d...

👀 Look at what I caught while casually watching ads.

🔎 A professional proofreader would've helped them avoid this obvious error.

❌ Plurals don't get apostrophes.

The only exception is when you're pluralizing single letters.

➡️ Learn your A B C's.

➡️ There are two s's in "misspell."

How to fix a backward apostrophe:

1️⃣ On Word- Insert👉🏻Symbols👉🏻More Symbols👉🏻Special Characters👉🏻Single Closing Quote.

On Docs- Insert👉🏻Symbols👉🏻Special Characters and type “Right single quotation mark.”

2️⃣ Add an apostrophe to the end of a word, type the contraction (no space), hit the spacebar.

Don’t let those claiming that em dashes are proof of AI writing win. Real writers use them. If your sentence needs an em dash, use one—it'll give your sentence a bit of a zing.

Or better yet, hire a copyeditor who can help you with this.

Dexter also loved em dashes—or maybe he loved hay.

Do you worry about the costs of editing? 😧💵

Getting your book professionally edited is worth the cost because a properly edited book will sell better than one with multiple issues.

When I leave a lot of markups and suggestions on your manuscript, it's not to criticize your writing but to strengthen it.

As your copyeditor, I find things you won't catch with self-editing alone.

And I do it respectfully, without tearing your writing apart.

Last week while getting my own blog post up on GoDaddy, I saw "Create a New Airo Blog Post."

I was curious. I clicked on it.

The result was... Ugh. There's no personality. It's not how I write. 😕

I'll stick to my messy, imperfect, yet all me, blog.

I deleted it right after I screenshot it.
