I talk about games and occasionally make them. Currently working on Crossguard RPG. https://linktr.ee/egregiousgames

Crossguard RPG is inspired by the simulationism of GURPS, the tactics of Mythras and the build-and-play ease of Lancer. If you're interested in playing, hit me up! #ttrpg
There are loads of things I love about Daggerheart. Just not as many as I hate.

I didn't wanna make this review. But I'm sure the comments are gonna be chill, right?

one thing that kind of annoys me about a lot of newer TTRPGs is that they assume the players know the rules.

in a lot of modern games, a character's cool moves require the player to have an understanding of the ruleset as complete as the referee - which can be a hard sell to potential players!

I'll be demoing Crossguard at The Gamers' Emporium - Swansea tomorrow! This will be the first time I've publicly demoed the game so I'm really nervous and excited! Hope to see some of you there! #ttrpg #indiegame

As an autistic person, it's always disappointing when you're trying to talk earnestly with someone, only to discover that they have hierarchical brainrot.

Best asymmetric games? Chaotic medium.

War of the Ring - when you have 4 hours
Star Wars Rebellion - not the best game ever made but dammit, I still love it

I have an insane paranoia that when I playtest, every person will be like "oh is that a slightly unfinished rule? Terrible game." #ttrpg

Listen, I'll mute people left and right for being unnecessarily hostile, weird or talking about things I specifically avoid (US politics). I'm neurotic as fuck, gotta protect your own brain ...

Neat way of thinking about it. I try to do both: you get both the legos and the action figure. You can build it yourself, or play the action figure. Or you can take an action figure and take off a few pieces and bolt a few new ones on
I made this a while ago and figured I'd post it here since I think it still makes a lot of sense

Positive feedback loops are such a simple but insidious way to turn normal people into parodies of themselves. You made another reductive, attention-grabbing take? Good little doggy, have some engagement.

Guides are good because sometimes you're playing TotK and you spend 15 minutes trying to figure out the 'clever' 'correct' way of using physics alone to snooker the ball upwards into the target because there MUST be a way.

Unless you're a professional gamer, your primary 'win' condition is - be a fun person to play with. Most people don't WANT to play hyper-sweaty games

Quote of the day courtesy of Garoad (aka Michael Kelly), one of my favourite videogame composers:

"Whatever your passion or dream might be, if you’re feeling discouraged, understand that that’s part of the process and it’s necessary for growth." 1/2

At first it was exciting to watch the system grow and grow and grow, adding 'content'.

Right now it's exciting to watch word count shrink, as I reword and clarify things. #ttrpg

Tepid take: If you make something innately evil, people are GONNA WANNA break that rule. That's just how humans are.

Piccolo in DBZ is supposed to be 100% pure evil, he's literally the evil part of a dude that was cast aside. So of course he gets a redemption arc.

Being a solo creator is great, because you're like "hey fuck marketers and intrusive producers, I'ma make what I want." It makes the development process a real joy.

.... Leaving the very small problem of how to actually sell your product, when you hate marketing and marketers.

With it being a fresh new year, I'm looking to get out of my cave and start GMing more games. Primarily of my own system, Crossguard.

Hope everyone had a great christmas and got all the books! I swung a copy of the Radiant Citadel so I can cannibalise that shit for adventures, always a fan of compilation books. I've been taking time off but now it's back to working on Crossguard. #ttrpg

Exploration and social don't need extensive rules structure. Rules exist for adjudication. Social and exploration do not have a set structure like "hitting a guy" or "saving against a spell". (1/3) #ttrpg #dnd

Edgy - but within algorithmically-approved guidelines, painstakingly-handcrafted-to-echo-chamber-norms - is not edgy. It's vicariously humiliating.
