"Thy holy cities are a wilderness..."
From honesty about the vagaries of the body's desires to the cults of medieval saints to the streetcars and the banks of the Don, Lafleur's poems probe what it means to be a queer person of faith formed by Toronto.

Need a playlist of this, Jeremy Messersmith's Fuck This, Billy Bragg's City of Heroes, and Brass Solidarity to put on repeat.
I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

The Episcopal Church has put together a very impressive toolkit for protesting, including tips for clergy in particular. Truly inspiring. This is how Christians ought to be engaging the moment.

If you see an abduction keep your wits about you and focus on:
-recording it
-getting a name

The first one I saw I went into a red rage and started screaming “GO HOME.” The second I was better but I didn’t get to the key question fast enough (I had less than 20 seconds).

Next time I’ll do better
Even just a name can put in motion efforts that get someone released. If they're a citizen, we can get them jail support. If they're an immigrant, there are groups working overtime to file habeas petitions before they're whisked out of state. But it starts with a name.
If you see one, the most important thing to say is “WHAT’S YOUR NAME” because otherwise the person is gone for good, maybe. I witnessed one in an alley as the sole pursuit car, I was the only witness, I froze for a second and didn’t shout it in time, and the guy is just… gone now. I’ll never know.

And the thing is ... if you are a Christian, you should already know this in your bones. And you should also know that on the other side lies resurrection.

That is literally the gospel.

But half the Christians in the US are unapologetic white nationalists, and most of the rest have been hearing

My chapbook turned one in November! in many ways it's a window back to the more publicly vulnerable version of myself who wrote some of the intimate poems six years ago. seminary & social work have made me more private & cautious & I don't read those poems aloud now but you are very welcome to them.
In erotic, religious, and historical poems, Lafleur draws us back to the closeness of past and present, the compulsion of vocation, and the vast grace of the liturgical year.
