A problem we have is that it feels like whenever we try to say something, it gets interpreted completely counter to what we wanted to say, and then it becomes a conflict and feels like our friends are angry at us all the time. Trying to correct the interpretation then feels very risky

one of the things about viewing games as "things made by people" is that you don't see much value in begging for old franchises to get a new game. That's just asking to be advertised to. You could create something just as "real" with your own hands if you wanted.
