Fortunately, my family has never really had any controversial topics of conversation or anything at thanksgiving.
That being said, nearly the entire room spent the entirety of Post Malone’s performance wondering why he only had one cowboy boot on and that felt worth sharing.

Even before the "AI" camel was poking its nose into the tent it was painful to see "algorithm" come to mean "opaque unknowable method of information showing & hiding, akin to the inscrutable machinations of the powerful people who control social platforms". That was linguistically infelicitous.

This is related to how "AI" (in the modern fuzzy black-box sense) is so annoying to me specifically. The best things about algorithms is that they're explicit and have well-defined inputs and outputs. Nicking the word for things without those properties feels like a kind of bait and switch.
