For folk who don't do faceboak, an update: My mum had a fall last week and has been in hospital since last Friday. The hospital is on the other side of London from me. She's not about to die, but thanks to a cracked vertebra we don't know when she'll be home. My dad is not doing well on his own.

Evri, outdoing even the lowest expectations, dropped a parcel on the doorstep, rang the bell and by the time I got there, wre pulling away with an actual squeal of brakes. The parcel was not for us. The parcel was addressed to a road near Old Street. Reader, Old Street is in zone 1. We're in zone 4.

Nothing like a live storytelling performance to make it clear how much your hearing loss has advanced. The performance was great, but I could barely make out the words. Maybe about half a dozen short phrases in the course of a 30 mins+ reading. This sucks.

#COMPANIONSofCHRISTMAS: Belsnickel!

Belsnickel was a hermit in Germany’s large and wild Black Forest, a fur trapper who wanted nothing more than to be left alone, but he lived near the entrance of a cave that children from a nearby village liked to explore. 1/

I've had very little cause to feel proud of my nationality for the last decade or so, but hearing the someone has protested at the Tower of London by throwing apple crumble and custard at the crown jewels has ignited a little flame in my heart. Sometimes mad island is mad in an alright way. 💛

And you may find yourself in a city that's inside Rome
And you may find yourself behind the glass of a large Popemobile

And you may ask yourself, "Well, how did I get here?"

A dream, many days ago, of which I can remember almost nothing apart from a line from a song that was being sung by an artist and their audience, which I was part of. It makes no sense, but I can still remember it: Our home is a passing road on the side of a cool, dark square. The melody is lovely.

I also sound like the Monster [Young Frankenstein, 1974, dir. M. Brooks]. Yes, I have tried to say "super-duper" to be absolutely sure. It came out as "fphuper- duper". No, there will not be video.

Just been to the dentist for a couple of fillings. More painful to my bank account than my mouth, although after all the injections in one side of my mouth I sound like John Merrick. [The Elephant Man, 1980, dir. D. Lynch]

HOLY SHIT. They found the genes for fibromyalgia - and it's *not* autoimmune, it's the central nervous system. It's very cool to see some progress made on the thing that's ruined my life since late teenage years!
Medical Republic: 'Fibromyalgia finally gets a genetic fingerprint'

'Additionally, certain risk loci overlapped with long covid (BPTF) and ME/CFS (OLFM4, RABGAP1L/GPR52), two poorly characterised disorders, albeit with different lead variants.'

Thatcher's government did this with Section 28, banned the "promotion of homosexuality" as a danger to children, while actively protecting Jimmy Savile and who knows how many other pedophiles. It's the same damn playbook.
I cannot begin to properly articulate how upsetting it is to have had people baselessly accuse trans people of being groomers and pedophiles only for it to come out that they were deliberately doing this as part of a project to provide cover to actual groomers and pedophiles in positions of power
