A couple of brief paragraphs from 'Monsters', to give you an idea of Dederer's style. (Very accessible, if you ask me.)
From Claire Dederer's 'Monsters: What do we do with great art by bad people?' But hold up for a minute: who is this "we" that's always turning up in critical writing? 'We' is an escape hatch. 'We' is cheap. 'We' is a way of simultaneously sloughing off personal responsibility and taking on the mantle of easy authority. It's the voice of the middlebrow male critic, theone who truly believes he knows how everyone else should think. 'We' is corrupt. 'We' is make believe. The real question is this: can I love the art but hate the artist? Can you? When I say "we", I mean I. I mean you. More from Claire Dederer's 'Monsters' - And perhaps I come to you with my own kind of stain - the stain of being a certain kind of white middle-class feminist. Maybe you think my solutions will be typical of such a person. Maybe I thought the same thing. Maybe I assumed at first that my findings would reassert the tenets of liberalism. Maybe we'll both be surprised.

After a delay of 24 hours or so, I got that casserole and bread-and-butter pudding done. Well done me. My reward was a really nice dinner. Pics, because it did happen.
A stew of sausages, beans and kale bubbling away in a casserole dish on a hob. An oblong enamel pie dish in which overlapping slices of pannetone have been used in a bread-and-butter pudding. The pudding has finished cooking and the slices of pannetone are pale gold.

It is now just over a fortnight since @kierongillen.bsky.social gave me this boon. (See 3rd pic). A truly nice person would have used it on, say, a day when he was moving house. But I am not *truly* nice. Niceness takes effort and sometimes I am tired. Aren't we all? And now I have a thing of use.😈
A copy of 'We Called Them Giants' a graphic novel by Kieron Gillen, Stephanie Hans and Clayton Cowles. The cover shows a teenaged girl witl long blonde hair dressed in black, carrying an ice-hockey stick with the blade stuck through with nails. She is looking up at a giant red hand, its span wider than she is tall, which appears to be glowing from within. The inside front cover of the same copy of 'We Called Them Giants'. It has been signed by the author, Kieron Gillen, and the artist, Stephanie Hans. A zoom-in on Kieron Gillen's signature. It is a letter K (which honestly looks more like an L) with an exclamation mark. He has laso written a message next to it, which reads "I PROMISE NOT TO PUN FOR 1 DAY OF YOUR CHOICE!" He has also done a little drawing of the girl on the cover of the book which really brings home why he needs artists to collaborate with.
