“Not Everything That Is Faced Can Be Changed; But Nothing Can Be Changed Until It Is Faced” ~ James Baldwin 1962
This is the energy to match, #Maine.

“I believe that we will win!”
It's near-white out conditions in Chicago as the snow comes down, and tonight's anti-ICE/CBP rally is wrapping up in front of city hall.

But not before the crowd bounces and chants, "I believe that we will win!"

Portland #Maine knows how it’s done. We, of course, learned from the best in #Minnesota.

UPDATED, PORTLAND, MAINE: 174 businesses have committed to supporting Minnesota in a national economic blackout.

Many more were unable to fully close but have risen in support in other ways. All should be celebrated.

Stay safe, see you in the streets 💜

In solidarity with immigrant service industry workers and immigrant-owned businesses.

Those businesses supporting the strike will be at the top of my list to support.

We must all stand together.

Peace takes positive action, not avoidance or silence.

“The entire letter is remarkable not for what it says — since it says very little beyond praying this whole mess somehow goes away so they can go back to making money without thinking about such dreadful things — than for what it doesn’t say.”
Echoing the cowardly white moderates who inspired MLK to write Letter from Birmingham Jail, 60 Minnesota CEOs made no mention of ICE, Alex Pretti or Renee Good in a bloodless plea for MN's problems to disappear

1/27 ICE has taken ANOTHER corrections officer from Maine, this time from York County. He had no criminal record and was taken when ICE invited him to a fake immigration check-in status appointment at the Scarborough facility. #maine #MEpolitics

Homework today: review www.logicalfallacies.org and look at the news for examples of each type.

Learn to spot these everywhere.

Apply this especially when they tell you not to believe your eyes.

Be on the lookout for logical fallacies that aim to undermine an argument and distract from the truth. This is their goal. Call it out when you see it.

The sneaky ways they try to get you to not believe the truth:

Doubt the evidence
Doubt the source
Doubt the process
Doubt the claim

Great graphic
There's a predictable approach to denial that we're already seeing, which I call the Four Pillars of Disordered Doubt, which allows actors to constantly question evidence that don't fit their preferred narratives.

“There comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe nor politic nor popular, but he must take it because his conscience tells him it is right.” MLK, JR 1929-1968

One cannot stand with the oppressor and have to audacity to ask for forgiveness from the oppressed.

Actions speak.
