Thinking up a new name was the biggest obstacle to joining.
Take a break from the madness and marvel at my dog sleeping. This is her mid-afternoon position. Just looking at her makes me want to take an Advil.

Today is a particularly good day to support trans mutual aid as a concrete way to fight back against the fuckers trying to take their healthcare and other rights away.

There were a couple hundred people at the rally I was at. Lots of drivers honked and celebrated as they passed, but we saw some middle fingers and a couple of Trump flags too. It was a peaceful, safe, joyful, and soggy protest.

Went to an academic awards ceremony this morning. It was so nice to watch middle schoolers lose their shit in the most wholesome way to celebrate their classmates.

I’ll take the small wins where I can: just had a surprisingly smooth call with lifetouch after we didn’t get the photos we ordered. The guy was apologetic and fixed the problem right away. Hopefully the photos actually arrive as promised. If only all customer service calls could go that way.

I’ve been listening to Belle and Sebastian more than usual lately (and that is saying something). It makes my inner band nerd happy. This song in particular has been stuck in my head, and that’s not a complaint. youtu.be/Rrky9ckkRsA

Everything remains awful, but I do appreciate this email from Butcher Box.

I love finding older Christie books. This was at Capitol Books in DC. The shop seemed like it hadn’t changed in the 20+ years since I was last there.

Did I buy Mysterious Mr. Quin purely for the cover? Of course.

Every time Booker yields for a question (while retaining the floor) I get real nervous that he won’t say it right. If I was (a) awake and (b) having to speak for as long as he has I would have screwed it up hours ago.

One under-discussed aspect of this video is hearing the crowd joyfully lose their minds all at once.
We can upload 3 minute videos now.

You're going to be tempted to engage in discourse focused on what Mahmoud Khalil said--was it actually antisemitic? Did he endorse Hamas?--and I cannot encourage you enough not to do that. It just doesn't matter what he said because you should not be detained and deported over what you say, period.

It's annoying how clearly this is going to play out.

They gut the FAA.
Therefore, the FAA can't do its job well because it was gutted.
Therefore, they say "The FAA sucks, we have to privatize it." which is what Project 2025 wants to do. They're manufacturing the crises for their end goal.

The small part of a hilarious thread that has me laughing so hard I’m crying.
“there’s another dj setting up in the middle of the street”
[incredibly tired] “we got a new dj”

Everything is still awful, but take 10 or so minutes to listen to a story of a woman who did things her own way and lived a great life.

Finding joy anywhere I can right now. Tonight it’s trying a new nail polish from Essie called ethereal escape. After 2 coats it’s a bit more sheer than I was expecting. But the bright side may be that it’ll be harder to notice when I inevitably chip it.

Being a person with deadly, incurable cancer who is nonetheless still alive for an indefinite timeframe gives me an interesting metaphor that helps me deal with things like large-scale corruption in government or commerce.

Bear with me for a second while I try to explain.
