If you are appalled at the tactics of ICE and CBP, you should be! They in fact are *NOT* trained for the work they're doing in America's interior right now—and they're scared of interacting with US citizens. That's a recipe for the exact disaster we see: www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/ice-101-ho...
"ICE 101" — How Trump changed ICE and CBP into a fascist secret police
ICE and CBP are fatally flawed products of the post-9/11 War on Terror — now Trump has weaponized those very flaws to occupy America.

Meaningful change required not only the end of war in Vietnam, but the replacement of allegiances to “tribe, race, class, and nation” with “loyalty to mankind as a whole.” Without
these radical transformations, King concluded, the US would remain “the greatest purveyor of violence in the world.”
Exactly a year before he was murdered, MLK Jr. gave one of the greatest speeches of his life, a piercing critique of the war in Vietnam. 2,000 people jammed into New York’s Riverside Church to hear him shred the claims U.S. leaders had long made to justify their counterrevolutionary foreign policy.
Exceptional Victims
The resistance to the Vietnam War was the most diverse and dynamic antiwar movement in U.S. history. We have all but forgotten it today.

There’s no reason an impeachment effort can’t be a kaleidoscopic panoply of Trumpian misdeeds presented to the public. trib.al/cEbGtPs

2 yrs ago Lewiston experienced a horrific mass shooting. 18 dead and 13 wounded. A report on the shooting found that police and the Army Reserve were at fault for failing to prevent the violence.

Now more violence and trauma are coming to Lewiston. This time perpetrated by our own damn government.
BREAKING — Mayor of Lewiston, Maine posts on FB that ICE is coming to the city imminently. This confirms my reporting the agency is planning a surge in the city and state generally.

Lewiston is home to a large Somali-American population, which made up 4.6% of the population as of the 2020 census.

This still feels deeply underreported on a national level. Too many things to cover but this feels like it should be story number one at all times (with Greenland right behind it).
I know people on Bsky know this but I hope it filters out: The feds are OCCUPYING the Twin Cities. This is a blockade, a siege. They are shutting down economic and civic activity. They are conducting "papers please" stops. They are criminalizing being a bystander/witness.

You could be next.

No contest
The idea that ICE agents have dangerous jobs is so ludicrous when you think about it. You’re dealing with immigrants (already a low crime population) who generally want to stay in the US (huge incentive to cooperate). It’s so much safer than being a real cop, much less doing food delivery

Who should we really worry about going too far? Is that what residents are really saying? The passive tense "weapons will be fired" avoids who's wielding and firing those weapons and who murdered a local less than a week ago.

If there are *any* Democrats in Congress who will still vote to keep funding this administration when it is using that money to terrorize our cities and refusing to allow congressional representatives their clear right to observe their activities, then those reps need to be primaried into retirement
I was just denied access to the ICE processing center at the Whipple Building.

Members of Congress have a legal right and constitutional responsibility to conduct oversight where people are being detained.

The public deserves to know what is taking place in ICE facilities.
JUST NOW: Huge mass of agents in a standoff, weapons drawn as Reps. Ilhan Omar, Angie Craig, and Kelly Morrison attempt to conduct congressional oversight at the Whipple Building, which has been HQ for thousands of ICE agents.

Historically, we've focused a lot on the brutal actions of authoritarian regimes, and today is no different.
Using imagery online of the shooting by an ICE agent in Minneapolis, we’ve created an animated sequence which highlights the approximate positioning of officers and vehicles at the scene. The red dot represents the agent who fired the shots. Yellow dots are other agents who arrived at the scene.

one takeaway from the grok noncon porn thing is that much of the media just isn't interested in an issue they can't pretend has two sides or that doesn't give them an opportunity to shit on the left. Also it would be uncomfortable to justify remaining on twitter after acknowledging it

Again, to you self-righteous folks: a protest non-vote is identical to an apathetic one. No one is coming to your house to ask you why you didn't vote. We're not your parents and, really, we don't think about you at all.
But your "protest" allows your rights to be taken away. Think of the long game.

USPS quietly changed its postmark rules — mail is no longer dated when you drop it off. The “official” date is when it hits automated sorting — sometimes days later

Which could have major implications for mail in voting — it’s a clever way to disenfranchise voters that’s going largely overlooked

It’s not about making a coherent theological argument it’s about building a coherent ideological argument that American violence, as wielded by the Trump administration, is sacred. If violence is sacred, holy it also cannot be questioned. To do so is heretical, sacrilegious.
