Welcome new Bluesky folks!

I'm Titus, an aquatic ecologist and fisheries specialist with Wisconsin Sea Grant. I work on all things #GreatLakes and freshwater from teaching 6th graders on a beach, surveying fish in a coastal wetland, or getting seasick on a commercial fishing boat!
🧪
My whole career was already based on the "illusion of competence" so maybe that's why I'm so resistant to A.I.

2025 will be Year 10 (!) of #25DaysofFishmas! Since 2016, December has meant 25 days of fish facts - and not just from me! While my #25DaysofFishmas generally focuses on #GreatLakes fish (though 2020 was also a travel year!), it's great when others share fish from their worlds- the more the merrier!

ITS THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR!

ITS THE HAP-HAPPIEST TIME OF THE YEEEEAAAARRR!
🎶From Atlantic to Pacific, gee the fish facts are terrific!🎶

#25DaysofFishmas is hitting the road! While there's no place like H.O.M.E.S. for the holidays, we'll be traveling beyond the #GreatLakes this year to learn about freshwater fishes from across the US. The road trip kicks off December 1!

Grass Carp can lay 500,000+ eggs that drift downstream & hatch fast. With floods & boat movement, they spread far.

Lake whitefish are spawning this time of year, so commercial season is closed. The eggs will overwinter and then hatch early in the spring.

This is a lot of "warm" water for November 18. Lots of potential for lake effect snow if it can get cold enough. Lots of cooling needed before ice can form. #GreatLakes
