That's a wrap on 2025's #25DaysofFishmas - the 10th year of #Fishmas silliness! Thanks to everyone who has followed along as we explored some of the amazing fish that call the US home.

From Atlantic to Pacific, there's a lot worth protecting - wishing everyone peace and renewal of hope for 2026.

I just learned #sundayfishsketch is a thing and I'm thrilled because goldfish and koi are my favorite animals.
This one is a little darker because I've been grieving the loss of one of my favorite koi. Not accurate, but inspired by scientific art.

#SundayFishSketch is a zebra angelfish from South America. I am told they are nearly as murderous in a tank as cichlids 🫢 the drawing vibes today are snow falling and Lord of the Rings in the background, because we could all use a little of Samwise Gamgee’s hope core

Silver Carp vs Bighead Carp. Silver Carp are usually clean, uniform silver and have a long, sharp belly keel that runs forward toward the throat. They can also leap from the water when startled by boat motors. Learn more at: invasivecarp.ca

The 16-mile long Cal-Sag Channel was part of the project to reverse the flow of the Calumet River out of Lake Michigan. Human waste was often dumped into the river and would flow freely into the lake, contaminating drinking water and causing fatal cholera outbreaks, officials said.
Scientists and advocates hail catch of smallmouth bass as sign of improved Cal-Sag Channel water quality
Mike Ress and Mike Portala of the MWRD say the catch of a large smallmouth bass shows improving water quality in Cal-Sag Channel.

Everything is really scary and horrible, and on the utter flipside, we made these really adorable valentines.

The dissonance of seeing horror, then posting "hey buy some cute valentines" is making me feel loopy.

But also nice things persist despite terror? Ugh idk.
