Same principle as resisting the urge to dunk on right-wingers and bigots. Them people don't care about why you're engaging. They just want the engagement, because it serves them either way.

I guess one lesson of Sicario is that the war on drugs is, at its foundation, the ultra-cynical management of illicit narcotics flows through the protection/co-optation of “favored” drug lords while taking an (at least public) hardline against the rest. Looks like folks have taken that to heart!
