GB News investor and Spectator owner Paul Marshall is in the running to buy the Telegraph now that the RedBird takeover plan has collapsed, the Guardian reports.
Hard to see this being anything other than a disaster for public discourse in Britain if that goes ahead.

I can see you have a view on this and strong ones at that. I think the current BBC is not functional, it is currently internally weakened by all those factors you mention. But independently funded. Impartially lead news is the corner stone of democracy. Turn it into optional subscription weakens it.
I don't value the BBC because it is a corrupt, biased government mouthpiece that has been pushing the far-right for decades.
It has enough Murdoch lackeys in it that it might as well be called the BB Sun.
It's a WW2 propaganda concept that is long overdue for renewal & replacement.

I can see you have a view on this and strong ones at that. I think the current BBC is not functional, it is currently internally weakened by all those factors you mention. But independently funded. This was a really fun and popular night, and thank you to everyone who supported by donating the raffle prizes and who attended on the night. Also thank you to the Fisherman's club who donated the room. I strongly suspect there may be other quiz nights like this in the future.

GB News' latest host is the campaigns director for far-right MP Rupert Lowe's 'Restore Britain'. He calls for an "ethnically homogenous Christian Britain".
This is a channel which has several people in the Lobby, and which has privileged access to No 10 as part of the broadcast 'pool'. Nuts.

Two stories you may not have seen this week that would be a big deal in a normal country:
1) The ‘dossier’ detailing the BBC’s editing of the Trump speech literally edited Trump’s speech.
2) The NBER calculated that Brexit’s longer term damage to GDP was greater than originally forecast.
