Some longtime followers might remember I used to document old Japanese game demos. I sold most of them off when I moved to Japan, but I kept a few with sentimental value, including this really rare retailer demo for the original Rhythm Tengoku, which I just dug out to put in my office showcase. 😌

You only begin to truly appreciate just what a foundational accomplishment and astounding paradigm shift the original Tokimeki Memorial is as a dating sim when you study more genre history and realize how much it shockingly gets right out of the gate, especially among raising sim ones specifically.
I actually am curious to know what people think are the earliest video games that have a serious claim to being the best in their genre. Not like “good for the time,” but like genuinely better than anything else out there.

Dear developers, if you're thinking of localizing your game into Japanese, please try not to separate "Press" and a button tag into different strings, but create a single string such as "Press <button>". It makes our lives a lot easier.
