Immigrant from one formerly great country to another now facing difficulties. Can we learn to support effective government in the public interest?

This is my cyclical reminder that there's really only one consistently reliable source of info in the public record that isn't owned by right wing billionaires, who really want to put an end to it.

Please give at least the $2.75 minimum they request if you can.

NCAR is quite literally our global mothership.

Everyone who works in climate and weather has passed through its doors and benefited from its incredible resources.

Dismantling NCAR is like taking a sledgehammer to the keystone holding up our scientific understanding of the planet.

Unbelievable.

GOP continues to balk at actually governing
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson said that the House of Representatives will not hold a vote on extending ACA tax credits. The decision means that the expiration of the tax credits — which will result in tremendous hikes in premium costs for those who previously received them — is all but certain.

Hegseth repeatedly misled the public about this strike.

The boat was headed for Suriname, not the U.S.
It wasn't carrying fentanyl.
The survivors didn't "radio for backup."

This strike was illegal, and Hegseth is trying to cover up what happened by refusing to release video.

FOX: The ACA has never been more popular. Republicans are losing on this messaging. How do you talk to Americans who say the Republicans don't have a plan?

REP. BUDDY CARTER: You explain it by explaining it's not working. When the govt has to subsidize a program, that means it's not working

This also happened during Trump’s first term. That 2024 dip? That’s when Democrats went on the defensive, and let Trump and MAGA dictate the immigration narrative.

Why, it’s almost as if political leadership (good and bad) can actually drive public opinion, instead of always following it.
This is extremely important

Well, this is an utter disaster for science.

This gutting of peer review is very likely driven by Project 2025/OMB/Vought, very likely is about funding junk science, and very likely is coming for #NIH and biomedical research next.
