On November 26, 1827, Detroit passed an ordinance requiring city sidewalks. Planks were used for sidewalk construction into the early 1900s, as shown in this 1902 photo.

On November 10, 1975, the ore carrier S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald sank in Lake Superior near Whitefish Point, killing all 29 sailors on board.

⚓️ Tonight, we honor the 50th anniversary and all other sailors lost on the lakes at our 26th Annual Lost Mariners Remembrance at the Dossin Great Lakes Museum.

Former Ford workers, Jim and Cheryl Bassett, purchased a vintage Ford station wagon from UAW Local 174 around 10 years ago. It was a bit worn and dusty from being stored for decades, but it appeared to be something special.

On October 29, 1907 the new Pontchartrain Hotel celebrated its opening. A more modern, luxurious hotel constructed on the site of Detroit's storied Russell House, the Pontchartrain would operate for less than 13 years, despite becoming a social and business hub in the city.
