I can barely keep up with all the free speech news coming out of America.
Don Lemon is not the only reporter who was arrested by federal agents overnight — local independent journalist Georgia Fort just went live on FB to say federal agents were also at her door to take her into custody over her protest coverage in Minneapolis.

Camps, where detainees can be concentrated.
BIG news from @bloomberg.com, which confirms that ICE has gone ahead and *purchased* multiple commercial warehouses with the aim of converting them into mass detention camps.

This is likely to be the big detention story of 2026 — literal warehousing of people.

Plans for such centers and jails in nearly two dozen communities have sparked protests over suitability, proximity to homes and schools.

ICE agents think they’re above the law. They’re not.

@repdangoldman.bsky.social and I just dropped the ICE OUT Act to end their immunity.

Here's the thing, Greg — free speech is still protected by the First Amendment under the Constitution.

If you want folks to stop saying you're the secret police who are kidnapping and killing people, maybe stop acting like the secret police who are kidnapping and killing people.
Bovino: "When politicians, community leaders, & some journalists engage in that heated rhetoric we keep talking about, when they make the choice to vilify law enforcement calling law enforcement 'Gestapo' or using the term 'kidnapping,' that is a choice & there are actions & consequences."

Naming someone is not doxxing. They aren’t undercover. They aren’t intelligence agents overseas. This is outrageous - we are supposed to be a free Republic and these people want an authoritarian police state. Lawsuits should be filed & ranking Dems in Congress should act.

Week 1. We invaded Venezuela. We killed the ACA subsidies. We destroyed the Kennedy Center. We murdered a woman in cold blood over deportations. We threatened Greenland, now we are offering them $100,000 per person to allow us to take over their country.
First 7 days. Can we survive a year of this?

I don't really post anymore, but I would like to carry on writing books at some point in the future.

Hate to be annoying, but any chance you could retweet so old twitter followers can find me if they want to? Going to delete my twitter, or at least abandon it on lock and let it die a slow death.

It's New Year, so time to look back and forward. These are 10 things I think we need to recognise in 2026. It’s a response to what I think are profoundly damaging mistaken assumptions I’ve heard and read from practitioners, journalists, and analysts in 2025. Warning: very long🧵

Trump denies what we've all seen with our own eyes -- that he regularly falls asleep during on camera events -- instead saying he's just "blinking."

Letter to the FT that stingingly sums up Brexit and the shit creek we now find ourselves in.
A terrible idea (naive, prejudiced and uninformed) that has deeply divided us and left us poorer and less secure… but unwilling to face up to the damage we’ve done to ourselves. While the EU moves on.

It's also vastly easier and cheaper for media outlets to produce culture war content than policy stuff.

With policy, you have to find actual experts that are available and willing, then pray they're good entertaining communicators.

On culture shit, you start with a talking head and work backwards.
This chart (which applies even more to social media than it did to TV) lives in my head rent free.

Social media enveloping traditional media means everything and everyone is now competing in the entertainment market. Boring stuff like policy that affects millions of lives doesn’t stand a chance.

1/ If you target me with tariffs, that's bad for your consumers who have to pay more to buy my products, and it's bad for my producers who will probably sell you fewer things.

For my government, the negative impact on your consumers is irrelevant unless it changes your behaviour.
