Chinese eldercare robot. In a couple decades there will be hundreds of thousands of robots like this; this is going to be a huge part of life in an aging world.

And I love the clever design, wheelchair built into back.

so much to cover right now, but a thread i just want to throw out there from my reporting is that the car rental market in minneapolis is reportedly totally screwed up right now because ICE has cleared the inventory. rental companies should have to answer for supplying vehicles used in terror.

Not the edge. Over the edge. Misrepresenting non-peer-reviewed work as peer-reviewed is a major abrogation of ethics and academic norms. It’s disqualifying.

Real robot videos with precision are always incredibly slow. Partly this is because teleoperation is really hard, partly its sensing and latency limitations.
A video of the Sharpa North robot at CES. Much slower than the lab promo video, but still very impressive.

I like the small adjustments its making here

Here is a video of a frozen creek that had begun to thaw, and the water was flowing beneath the thin ice on top. I took this because it was soothing and wonderfully bloopy and I wanted to listen to it for hours. You are all welcome to enjoy it, too. Let your brain settle here and rest for a moment.

Some day the editors of @NYTimes will remember that they have a duty to doubt every claim a politician or official makes and report the truth clearly. It’s operating as a mouthpiece to abusive, dishonest power, just as it did 2002-2004.

Unions are essential to saving American democracy. They are the only effective countervailing power to oligarchy.

Sadly, we are going in the wrong direction.

WELKER: How soon will elections be held in Venezuela? Within 30 days?

MARCO RUBIO: Elections? Look -- this is a country that's been governed by this regime for 15 years. The elections should've happened a long time ago.
