Happy Monday, folks! I’m at San Mateo City Hall tonight, where the council is set to consider spending several million dollars to rip out bike lanes installed in 2022 in favor of more parking spots for cars.

Yes, really. 🧵

I’m pretty excited to announce that the actual storage runtime for shdwDrive v3 is basically done!

Steven and I have some bug hunting to finish up, but I’ve moved onto polishing the iOS app.

In the coming weeks, I’ll be able to give a more definite time frame as far as an actual release date!

Module #1 is fully operational! Here’s what it is solely responsible for:

- Maintains the DAG of gossip events

- Validates node operator signatures/attestations

- Tracks seen relationships

- Assigns levels/checkpoints as the DAG grows

- Manages local storage of the DAG history and its metadata

You've probably been hearing a lot about budget bills, environmental reviews, and labor fights out here on the West Coast. It's all adding up to probably the biggest policy change in modern California history. Here's a breakdown for the perplexed.

The last of the architectural design modules for shdwDrive v3’s newly designed consensus engine are finally finished.

Now to get to building them.

At some point, I’ll compile all 15 module documents and publish them.

Our budget agreement with the Governor is now public.

We fully protected public transportation funding — reversing all proposed cuts — & fully protected the $750M loan to Bay Area transit systems we previously agreed to with the Assembly. 🧵

Amazing how much housing has been built in West Oakland right next to the freeway and railroad.

Here's what this all looked like in 2009.

A shdwDrive Thread:

So, it’s completely accurate to say that the deployment of shdwDrive v2 was an utter mess.

Many parts of shdwDrive v2’s architecture made absolutely zero sense.

However, one of the things that is the most game changing about AI is that nobody can hide bad code anymore.

I'm deeply saddened to share that Donald Shoup passed away last night. He was the ideal academic—curious, methodical, and concerned with turning ideas into real-world change. TAing his parking course these past few years has one of the greatest honors of my life. Rest in peace, Shoup Dogg.

Fascinating read. "Because the project is on First Nations land, not city land, it’s under Squamish authority, free of Vancouver’s zoning rules. And the Nation has chosen to build bigger, denser and taller than any development on city property would be allowed."

This is the most beautiful diagram I've ever seen. I wish we had the political will to accomplish all of this.

SF’s progressive supes advocate outsourcing city services to private entities. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Sounds… Republican. It replaces good paying unionized city jobs with a ton of ununionized non-profits.

AND these orgs…get no-bid contracts AND get to give political money?! 🤯😡
