An awful past week somehow gets even worse. Godspeed, Steve Taneyhill. Gone far too soon, though his swagger and ponytail will live forever.

I can't help but feel prompted to remind you that CBS goes on the air and starts revealing the NCAA Tournament bracket literally within three minutes of the clock striking 6 p.m. ET 😀

Rankings should have come out already. Save the breakdown for after. This isn't really a ratings play anyway -- viewership for this is nowhere close to NCAA men's selection show.

It’s called parity, and it’s freaking beautiful
Indiana: First Big Ten title in 58 years

Texas Tech: First real conference title in 49 years

Duke: First ACC title in 36 years

Something like Indiana-Texas Tech would be a perfect national title game for this era, where anyone can contend thanks to transfers and player pay. Which makes it all the more galling that so many admins and politicos want to roll back to the era when only a dozen or so schools could truly compete.

Hell yeah, Indiana. Go win it all. Showing every mediocre-to-terrible college football program in America that it can be done. If they’re paying attention, that is.

When did everyone decide conference championship games are bonus games? What’s the point if they don’t have stakes?

we had conference divisions for a reason and the tiebreaker here is "higher conference opponent winning percentage" which is not something anybody — the players on the field, even the coaches — even had any control over
For real though. Chaos is great but having to watch a bad 7-5 Duke team in a conference title game while an actual good team sits home because of tiebreaker minutiae is just bad
This might be an unpopular take ... but if I'm the ACC and Cal upsets SMU, I override the tiebreakers and put Miami in the ACC championship game against Virginia.

The perils of AI: The AP uses STATS LLC, a British sports AI company (they once owned).

The team and players for this AI recap are all wrong, they took the Texas Southern vs Virginia-Lynchburg game and switched team names and scores.
