reminder that as insurrectionists and domestic enemies of the United States, all Republicans everywhere are constitutionally banned from holding or seeking public office, so every position they hold they hold illegitimately, and every vote they receive should be deemed invalid

Ten years ago today, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia died, kicking off one of the greatest crimes committed against democracy when Mitch McConnell invented a pretense to deny President Obama a nominee, and everyone in power and media just shrugged and acted like he could do that.

In a disgraceful waste of time, Trump just tried and failed to indict 6 of my colleagues for a video reminding service members to refuse *illegal* orders.

House Republicans passed the SAVE Act 2.0 – which will prevent millions of Americans from voting by requiring in-person proof of citizenship to register to vote AND, in many cases, to cast a ballot. The Senate must STOP this voter suppression bill.
House passes SAVE America Act, sending Trump-backed election bill to the Senate
The legislation would overhaul federal election laws in all 50 states by imposing new voter ID and proof-of-citizenship requirements. But it faces a daunting path in the Senate.

Just saying, if that is the current situation here in the United States—having not been our situation for 200+ years—such that law enforcement cannot operate without concealing their identities, then obviously the ruling party, the Republicans, has failed and must thrown out of office and disbanded.

It maddens me how people have become convinced that “ad hominem” is Latin for “he cal’t me a name and I didn’t wike it”, and not short for “argumentum ad hominem” which is something else
You know what? Let me give y'all a fucking example.

Calling something "racist" or "white supremacist" will literally be interpreted by white people (broadly construed) as adjacent to an ad-hominem attack because of how we've culturally organized our understanding of racism and white supremacy.
As I repeatedly emphasize to my students: the presence of a fallacy in discourse does not render the broader argument irrelevant and many "fallacies" are premised on a given network of cultural meanings. One could make a valid and sound argument for why someone is "bitchmade" and use it effectively.

Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger endorsed a constitutional amendment to automatically restore voting rights to people with felony convictions when they leave prison. State lawmakers passed the amendment and it will now appear on the state ballot.
