This Canadian start-up makes pulp from straw instead of wood, and it’s ready to scale.

Red Leaf Pulp is building a new mill in Saskatchewan that will use crop residues as a base for sustainable paper and packaging.

Great idea!

Steven Miller, a top aide to Trump, said "no one's going to go to war with USA if we invade Greenland". I disagree: I think there's one group that will - the Greenlanders themselves.

For those (probably quite old now) Canadians who remember Percy Saltzman - I wish an AI could be created to deliver today's weather in his inimitable style, with only a blackboard and chalk...

There's a difference between "income" and "wealth" - and the latter is harder to find, to measure, and to this tax. So when we say "tax the rich" we may need new *mechanisms* to assure they contribute to society in proportion to their rewards from it.

The engine of the economy is consumption, not just the storage of wealth. Yet consumers are being squeezed more and more as money flows not through their spending but directly to the holdings of the wealthy. "Trickle down" doesn't work; "bubble up" does. But what happens if all the bubbles stop?

I note the number of mass shootings per year continues to rise, despite politicians continually assuring us of their thoughts and prayers. Could it be that they are not thinking and praying hard enough? Or might it be that thoughts and prayers are inadequate to affect the rising senseless violence??

Much of the cardboard and paper goods strewn about our homes are sold by a single private company, with its name, Uline, stamped on the bottom.

Many may not know that a multibillion-dollar fortune made on those ubiquitous products fuels far-right candidates across the country.

That Cardboard Box in Your Home Is Fueling Election Denial
A previously unreported boom in profits for the shipping supply giant Uline has provided the funds for a deeply conservative Midwestern family to bankroll anti-democracy causes around the country.
