Great news for Cork!

I walked through Market Alley back in September & lamented to myself about all the lovely retail units that were empty.

Great to see a new one opening.
Even better that it's a comics shop!

Best of luck @hurleybiy.bsky.social & James!
My buddy James and I will be turning this space into Cork City’s newest comic book shop, HD Comics. As central to Cork City Centre as you can get.

If you’re looking to sell some comics, send me a DM. Opening in the next few weeks.

This is why the state needs to intervene directly to supplement supply. They won't though as it's ideologically unacceptable. And that means locking a large slice of the population out of home ownership for the next several decades. Not be accident, by choice.
the answer I get is “supply will reduce price” —as if spec developers are going to keep building & keep selling at a loss for 10-15 years… rather than stalling construction the moment there are no more buyers at their high prices, & sitting on land for as long as it takes for the market to improve

Great.

The EU came into being after the last time fascists were invited in, & now the EPP (incl FG) decide to open the door again, & sacrifice environmental & human rights regulations to do so.

Sure who needs those pesky regulations!
Not us humans, facing climate catastrophe.
😫
European lawmakers have voted to back the weakening of landmark EU environmental and human rights rules, as part of a business-friendly drive to slash red tape pushed through with far-right support. jrnl.ie/6874165
EU lawmakers vote to water down sustainable business rules
The EU parliament’s biggest centre-right bloc joined forces with the hard right to back amending the legislation on corporate sustainability.

Have a look at Micheál Martin scrambling.

He doesn't like his gross hypocrisy called out.

He wants to bring in dirty fracked gas.

Speaking out of one side of his mouth at #COP30, and back to usual when he's home.

The Irish fossil fuel industry welcoming a politician on board as their paid lobbyist.

Until recently he was Fine Gael's spokesman on Climate Action.

In many democracies this wouldn't even be legal, let alone acceptable.

Sinn Féin's housing spokesperson Eoin Ó Broin did not hold back in his blistering criticism of the Government's long-delayed housing plan during Leaders' Questions today.

He accused the Government of “brazenly trying to rebrand unaffordable private homes as affordable”.

As an honorary Clare man (aka blow-in), I second Rob's call that the people of Clare deserve better leadership.

Clare has a strong history of welcoming immigrants, be they intercounty like myself, Northerners escaping the troubles, or of Indian, Asian, or African descent, or from anywhere else.

My letter in today's Clare Champion calling out the xenophobic dog-whistling from our local TD, Timmy Dooley, as well as Sinn Féin's Matt Carthy.
Immigrants are not the reason I've struggled to retain housing or buy my own home - Government policies are. Landlords like Timmy Dooley are. #Spéirgorm

How much carbon budget do we have left if we want to stay below 1.5˚C?

Just 2 more years at current rates. It is essentially impossible to avoid global temperature rise exceeding 1.5˚C.

In Scotland 5 yrs ago, there were flats for £50k+ & houses for £120k+.
Those are starter homes. Get a mortgage on an avg wage & move up later if you want.

The engineered scarcity in the Irish housing market will never accommodate churn at those prices.

This is deckchairs on the titanic stuff.

The Morning Show season 4 had been a bit hit & miss, but ep 8 The Parent Trap is incredible.

The dichotomy of the two parental relationships, both emotional roller-coasters.

Jennifer Aniston is immense, best performance by her in the show so far I think.
