If you're forgetful like I am, you can set Bluesky to remind you to use alt-text.

Settings -> Accessibility and it's right there. Tick a box and help out disabled users.
Honestly do not understand why so many of the biggest "progressive" accounts on here do not use alt text.

They have made the world living hell for no reason whatsoever. People will ask why this happened in a decade and there will be tremendous effort to make it more complicated than “they were evil, stupid, and bored”

Conference kindness reminder: presenting can be super stressful and scary, especially if it’s the first time you’ve done it, or public speaking isn’t part of your day job. If you’re the first person to ask a question, thank the speaker and say something nice.

Americans are suffering under the weight of sky-high housing prices.

Today, I’m re-introducing my bill with @warnock.senate.gov and @cleaver.house.gov to build 3 million new homes, bring down rents by 10%, and cut red tape that drives up costs.

Congress must act.
Why housing affordability keeps getting worse
Rising prices and a shortage of affordable homes have driven many folks to rent.

Folks, I don't intend to post about every single horrible thing that's happening at the moment because I'm not a direct news source and also because my mental health has an upper limit. Don't confuse lack of obsessive news updating for lack of concern or lack of personal action. Also, here's a cat.

Every year or so I try to update this list (which started as a CLMOOc project). What am I missing? I am trying to keep an updated list of various tech (free, freemium, paid) that educators can use docs.google.com/docu...

Alt text generator just hit 150k images processed 🤩 love it

For those around since I first posted it, this isn’t quite as good as the original. Everything has always run locally - this is NOT a chatbot, see “about” - but yall broke my server. I’ll keep improving it

Anyway, for the newskies :)

For beginners, it can be difficult to know what to put in alt text, as well as when alt text is needed and when it isn't. This decision tree helps you determine what to do, based on specific situations.

I use something similar to help team members deal with workloads, but I use important and enjoyable.

1. Important, enjoyable - prioritise
2. Important, not enjoyable - better with someone else?
3. Not important but enjoyable - keep, but not a priority
4. Not important, not enjoyable - kill it
Was told about a self help book where tasks are divided into four categories:

1. Urgent, important.
2. Urgent, not important
3. Important, not urgent
4. Not important, not urgent

The problem is we all spend too much time on 2, leaving no time for 3.
