PSA: the small and mighty SIDKick Pico works perfectly with the Commodore 64 Ultimate, before you go spending three figures on an original SID chip in case the on-board UltiSID doesn't float your boat.

Nice article in The Guardian about the story behind Prince of Persia's first making in 1989! 💾 A treat for me to see Broderbund co-founder Doug Carlston interviewed here- he's a great guy and was one of my first mentors.

‘There was no animation software in those days. So I videotaped my brother David running, jumping and climbing in a car park’

Alpha Waves, the very first true 3D platformer, hopped onto Atari ST in 1990, developed by Christophe de Dinechin and published by Infogrames.

Like Geograph Seal and Jumping Flash several years later, Alpha Waves recognises the importance of a shadow and camera angles for precision platforming.

Aw man 😞 Rest in peace Mr Cheifet, host of Computer Chronicles: obits.goldsteinsfuneral.com/stewart-chei...

What a legend. His work in both presenting and preserving the early days of computer history has been (and will continue to be) deeply appreciated! My condolences to his family and friends.

I am immensely proud to have been a member of the team who put the Commodore 64 back into production in 2025. Many late nights, struggles with imposter syndrome, and having to stay positive in the face of some unpleasantness from a handful of other fans.

Was it worth it? Absolutely. 🤩

It's Christmas 1998, and you're deep into CRPGs and AD&D. You pop in the first of Baldur's Gate's five discs and are greeted by an epic autorun that'll whisk you to Forgotten Realms like you've never seen them before.

That was my Xmas 1998 with my first Win 95 PC. I was so excited to play it. 💜

Demon's Souls on CRT advances.

1-1 is the Souls level from which all others flow. The elegance and economy of design here arguably have never been matched. One bonfire, two HUGE shortcut unlocks. A dense clockwork mechanism that unfolds like origami.

Demon's Souls has the most achingly beautiful deadest guys ever.

Brave knight, what was your story? Did you even want to go on, really? Did you die in battle or were you claimed by dysentery?

A scheme of revenge brews; Beware, King Richard! You will pay for your lack of vision, warns Scotia!

Westwood Studios' artists, led by Rick Parks, had a masterful grip on 256-colour VGA as '93 dawned, producing truly lovely pieces for their games.

The "first hypermedia PC", the Tulip Universa took cues from the Classic Mac, but included features Apple never did - such as an IR remote, allowing users to view their photo CDs from the comfort of a chair up to about four yards away (six yards in even lighting). (Source.)
