Fugitive from academia. Currently plying the Pacific.
I think this is a pretty good choice, and I applaud the Dems who risked the ire of Bluesky and voted for him. Will he crash and burn? Who knows? But Trump could've nominated a bucket of fried chicken. Isaacman is a space guy and believes in that future.

Astronomers have discovered a bizarre lemon-shaped exoplanet orbiting a dense, rapidly spinning dead star. But those details are perhaps the least weird thing about it.

You might start with learning about the basics of household economics for the majority of humans who have ever lived, which is to say pre-modern peasant farmers: acoup.blog/2025/07/11/c...

This is the first post in a series discussing the basic contours of life – birth, marriage, labor, subsistence, death – of pre-modern peasants and their families. Prior to the industria…

Owning physical media is the best, but I stream a lot too! And I completely agree with the sentiment here. Haven't used Spotify in years. Qobuz is the best quality, but I do like Tidal's discovery algorithm. Both are light-years better than the alternatives.
Spotify is garbage on every count: Its treatment of artists, its ICE advertising, the CEO's investment in military AI, its leading role in the commodification and AI slopification of music, its terrible audio quality—you name it.

So I quit, and put together a complete guide to getting off Spotify:

Harry Dean Stanton. Obviously.
The trick is to pick an actor that’s been in everything for a long ass time. Off the top of my head that’s Samuel L.
This is a Bill Simmons game, but you’re stranded on a desert island. You can only have one actor’s filmography. You get it all, including cameos. But just the one performer.

I’m taking Cate Blanchett: Talented Mr. Ripley, LOTR, Life Aquatic, Black Bag, Tár, Ponyo, Hot Fuzz, Eyes Wide Shut, Thor

Tonight’s discourse bores me

what good policy would you pitch trump in a meeting that you think he’d half remember well enough to keep talking about it
Trump in a room with a very charismatic person results in like half a day of Trump agreeing with everything that person said, so this has the potential to be very, very funny.

I get adequate shore leave and feel pretty lucky in that regard, but so many mariners don't. They deserve better.

The defense team presses Lairmore on whether the sandwich really 'exploded.' They return to the photo of the sandwich and wrapper on the ground.

"That sandwich hasn't exploded at all, has it?" defense asks.

"It looks like a little bit is coming out towards the bottom," Lairmore replies.

New cairn terrier puppy here at the Fernglade. His name is Starbuck, after the 1st mate in Moby-Dick. Quite a lot of personality! Will miss him when I'm at sea. Sadly, he cannot join the crew.

Now spinning Michael Jackson's Thriller. Crate dive find. 1st pressing. NM. Cover still in the shrink, w/ "The Girl is Mine" hype sticker. One original price tag shows $8.98. Then it was marked down to $6.49. So, im guessing it was sold in '84. Sound is amazing.
