Every one of these I pulled off had me feeling terrible for ages after and every time I would swear not to get into that situation again.

I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.

the UK is (not just the originator but) the setting for some of the most popular culture in the world. there is a whole genre of videogames that are set in an imagined Britain. 'soft' power is real economic and even political power.

Agree. One thing that I really liked about @jpspencer.bsky.social’s Labour Together report is it included culture in “growth spending”. So much policy about regional development in the UK basically regards culture, tourism, etc. as distractions from the real work of building trains to nowhere.

Not everything you do at work is "portfolio worthy". It's just stuff you did at work, you won't always get the cool kid assignments. Which means your pro work is just a curated archive of projects throughout your career.
