For reasons that I suspect are stress related, every time I do a GDC talk I gain 20-22kg in the run up to it, then lose the weight afterwards.
At some point I hope to not look so fat when being recorded for posterity. It’s jarring. #gamedev

Idk why devs are so ready to give away all their intellectual ownership to platforms that will one day screw them over. Yes, graft is graft, but also it’s your freedom and independence.

When compiling with “warnings as errors” + supporting both MSVC and Clang, bear in mind that Clang be like “That constexp isn’t used - fail!” while MSVC be like “unused constexp whatever, but hey is that a %d? You crazy? That’s string formatting a size_t!”

My knee hurts all the time. In July I thought “this is going to be a lot worse by October”. The MRI agreed. I was told to ‘get lighter’, so I’ve lost 20kg. My knee still hurts now, but probably a lot less than it could have. Did I do the right thing?

My 12yo found HL2 in the family collection and started playing it on Friday night. He’s had a few questions, some of which I could answer from memory, while others I could deduce from my experience as a gamedev.
Still a great game after all these years.

So often in AAA we hang ourselves out to dry on quality targets that separate us from indie titles, only for players and press to revel in those indie games without even noticing those exact same limitations. E.g. Every quest transition being very not seamless. IDK if it matters all that much. 🤷♀️
