Happy May 1st. The value of your labor belongs to you and the actions of the state are best understood as as a coordinated effort to distract you from this. The state fears an organized and unified proletariat like it fears death and rightly so. Power to the workers and power to the people

Hearing that DOGE went into the Dept of Education today and shut down almost the entirety of the department's in-house research arm, Institute of Educational Sciences, cancelling contracts totally about $900m.

Just in case you thought that removing DEI criteria would mean that everyone is competing equally: NIH is removing grad students from underrepresented backgrounds from the applicant pool altogether. Their applications will not be considered. Other students, not from these backgrounds, will be.

They say they want education to be "data driven," but they ignore the empirical flaws with the data that are produced.
They say that families should have "educational choice," but ignore that cities lack the transportation infrastructure for "choice" to actually function...

This morning I to a inspiring and thoughtful talk with a room full of other researchers and educators about the success of coalition-building against harmful conservative education agendas. It was the most hopeful I’ve felt in weeks.
