I am grumpy having run out of @restingdinoface.bsky.social books to read. What a beautiful combination of lyricism and science & a poet’s talent for tucking a vast concept in one phrase tucked in a sentence; it makes you stop, read the sentence over again, and think. Next one is due when, exactly?

I belong in Humbug Pool.

Y’all the #ArtAdventCalendar featuring real humans doing real artwork is such a powerful expression of humanity and resistance to our current cultural rot.
it's december & that means #ArtAdventCalendar, a tradition started by my friend @jayispainting.earthskyart.ca . i shall endeavour to have all fish, but for now here's an oldie as a placeholder: "Humbug Pool"

because around here it's also winter steelhead season

Just passed the Snohomish library on a dark and dreary dog walk where people sat at every desk reading books and had this exact thought. 🤓
Wanna avoid responsibilities while appearing responsible?

Wanna escape your mess of a life while looking like you have it all together?

Wanna stave off people without coming across as rude?

Try reading a book in public! 📖

RFK Jr‘s Canadian friend, probably.
It's ludicrous how these predatory practices are allowed to operate on the premise of exploiting people in extreme medical duress.🤬💔

Pretty sunset on Samish Flats. Only one short-eared owl in the distance, but I saw some surprising birds flying the East 90: northern shrike, rough-legged hawk (they usually avoid the eagles, but not today), and a barn owl (!). Will process photos tomorrow. Light was low with incoming weather, so 🤷🏻‍♀️.

And let’s all remember the origin of audiobooks. They weren’t for people who can see. They are the only access to books some of our fellow humans have.
Yes. Every librarian and literacy expert will likely say yes. Now shut up.

Dug is finally back to normal behavior this morning, following sniff trails and playing with sticks along the way. Culture was negative but I read that can happen in 20% of cases in male dogs. Or it’s something else going on. Ultrasound scheduled for the 8th. 🤞

Perhaps an unpopular opinion: can we stop putting pepper in everything?

Don’t get me wrong, I like pepper in many dishes.

But there are better ways to get a bite into things like pumpkin pie. Make pumpkin pie with a big dose of different spices. spice the crust. Pepper just tastes bitter in it.
