“It [love] is an encounter with uncertainty. A.I. takes care of that. Just about all the major pieces that enter relationships, the algorithm is trying to eliminate — otherness, uncertainty, suffering, the potential for breakup, ambiguity. The things that demand effort.”

It has been a truly upsetting revelation how many people who I thought cared about disinformation, advocating for science, etc just flipped in 0.002 microseconds after a tech company programmed a chatbot to tell them how great their questions are

i really can't get over how unimaginative tech companies are with LLMs. everything - almost literally every single thing - is a chat bot. you have to initiate and sustain a fake conversation with a chat window for every stupid thing. the least creative people in the world.
OpenAI just released Prism, a LaTeX editor with embedded ChatGPT for free.
Writing a paper has never been easier.
Clogging the scientific publishing pipeline has never been easier.
It took me 54 seconds to write up an experiment I did not actually conduct.

I like reading. One of the reasons I entered this profession was because it allows me to read and call it work. When I hear about fellow academics’ optimised knowledge consumption workflows, it makes me feel a little sad.
