And who stands to gain from pushing AI?

The owner of Time, billionaire Marc Benioff.

When billionaires take control of media, it’s not a win for free speech. It’s a win for oligarchy.

I'm feeling a way today, so let's be a wee bit transparent.

6 years ago, I had an aggressive form of cervical cancer. The treatment means I cannot bear children.

This year, I returned to my hometown for some family holidays. Someone commented that I looked the same as I did 10 years ago.

Rode a bus that had a horrific smell.

Now I'm feeling ill, having some issues (intense bodily and mental discomfort causing further complications) and my day is mildly 'ruined' because this affects my plans.

But tell me again that AuDHD is a superpower.

I get being annoyed by the consumerist frenzy that accompanies Black Friday/Small Business Saturday/Cyber Monday, but believe when I tell you, gang: it makes all the difference in the world to small businesses and independent creatives.

Now is the perfect time to support them.

ANYWAY

Buy from small businesses
Buy from independent creators
Buy passion projects
Buy commissions
Buy art

In a society that's decided that money is final word, be aware of where yours goes and to support what

Yes it sucks, I don't like it either, but pretending it's not a thing does not help!

The most precious commodity you have is your attention. You don’t have to waste it on poor-faith debates or arguments with strangers if you don’t think they’ll be productive. You can prioritize the things that matter to you and make your life richer.

The additional context is that Valve is still killing a beloved games studio, still tried to weasel out of making a press statement, still didn't allow a second review, and still did not communicate with the developer beyond vague references to their terms.

Airline prices continue to rise and quality drops.

Our 13lb dog has a carrier that last year was fine for in-cabin, and as of 6 months ago, it's too small, because they keep shrinking the size of bags allowed in the cabin.

Oh yeah btw the reason why Vine is being relaunched with great fanfare and no Al is because it's jointly operated with an Al company and they probably don;t want to pollute their scrap pile with stuff they've already shat out.

I’m gonna stop you right there. Because it sells books. Because it sells books! If a large group of authors is consistently doing something, it’s because it works. You can hate whatever it is, but don’t shit on authors for making business decisions.

I have a theory that this concept of Placeholders as 'Not Garish' is part of the wider 'Against All Forms of Professional Best Practices' that has taken over certain sectors of the Indie space.
In gamedev, if you're using a placeholder asset, best practices involve marking it as placeholder so garishly and offensively clearly PLACEHOLDER that you can't possibly miss it. Also flagging that asset in the dev process so it can be identified quickly before the final build.
