Great to see William Neill sharing photographs here. He's definitely worth following! (And if you are in Yosemite, you should visit his show at the Ansel Adams Gallery.)
I have just posted a new portfolio on my website, inspired by the current exhibit at The Ansel Adams Gallery.

Full survey results show American public have high levels of confidence in scientists while revealing some partisan differences (including on how to fund science), but statements asserting lost trust should be read instead as intentional efforts to degrade trust.

We were season one ticket holders, so we've seen it all, good and bad. I'm not worried about his durability but time will tell. Love that I'm hearing people say "that's a McDavid goal", because he does things insane and makes it looks easy. And the rest of the team this year is doing well too
I watched Jumbo and Patty their whole “prime”. Macklin doesn’t have Jumbo’s size. And he might not have Patty’s longevity and durability. But the kid does things on a nightly basis that make you go “oh my god” in a way that neither of those previous two ever did. And he’s doing that at only 19 too.

Coyote Creek Solar Project in Sacramento County has been canceled. This was very poor site selection, w the company claiming it was bare ground, when, according to locals, it was largely great habitat with lots of trees and environmentally important. Some solar projects are stupid, believe it or not

Oh VERY cool! Their base conclusion is that there is no long-term risk of death from getting the COVID vaccination, and it may actually reduce mortality (they actually expect to see *more* deaths in the vaxxed group due that cohort being older, but saw fewer)…
In a study following 23 million people age 18-59 (pretty young) for 4 years…despite the fact that the ones who got the COVID vaccine were overall older and sicker at baseline, they not only had 74% lower risk of dying from COVID than the unvaccinated but 25% lower risk of dying from any other cause!

In my long experience running mailing lists and online communities, they NEVER are.
It's probably helpful to remember that for any group, the people on social media who are the most loud and vigorous representations of that group are probably not actually fairly representative of that group

I stopped giving NYT a penny years ago. They keep proving me right. Have you kicked them out of your wallet yet?
So much of this era is the story of mean-spirited dumbasses getting enough power that decent, intelligent people can't step in and stop their terrible dumbass ideas.
In this in-depth interview Billie Jean Sweeney — a former editor at The New York Times — details how the paper shifted towards openly promoting anti-trans hatred, why this was directed from the very top, how some staff pushed back and the immense damage done by the NYT legitimizing bigotry.

If I'm ever elected to public office WHICH WILL NOT HAPPEN I will be sworn in on a copy of The Portable Dorothy Parker
Strange takes on Mayor Zamdani swearing his oath on the Qu’ran. It has nothing to do with church & state. The point of the oath is for the person swearing in to do so upon some text that is sacred TO THEM. Some Presidents swore in w/o any book. John Quincy Adams was sworn on a law book. His choice.
