Ok geology pals, I need some help. In your opinion what are the “best” disaster movies? Specifically -
1) The 'best' or most scientifically interesting depiction of a disaster
2) The funniest or most ridiculous disaster movie
3) Your favorite 'guilty pleasure' disaster movie

Also, it is fantastic that the EPA makes this information so accessible. It helps with decisions for everyone living in the area and is so important for people who are sensitive to poor air quality. We should continue to fund all of this!

Good indoor air quality is incredibly important for our health and happiness. Excellent research in this area has really pushed our understanding forward. @niccarslaw.bsky.social, Yingjun Liu, and I have a special issue in ES&T Air that is accepting submissions.

Advice needed: A former student now in industry is asking about pros/cons of doing an industry-sponsored PhD, given the current climate and not getting in anywhere this cycle. I remember there was chatter about this a couple years ago but it's a good time to revive this chat. Please RT.

America cannot long remain free, nor first among nations, if it becomes the kind of place where universities are dismantled because they don't align politically with the current head of the government.

‪If you're a researcher with an NSF grant that has been terminated or with a proposal now stuck in limbo, I'd like to hear from you.

My signal is kvasquez.12. Anonymity is always an option.
NSF announced that it has begun terminating awards. It's unclear how many affected. Sources say it could be over 200

It's also re-reviewing proposals that had already been approved for funding

Here's a breakdown of what's happened this week: cen.acs.org/policy/resea...

DOGE’s orders threaten NSF grants and proposals
Already-approved grants were sent back for review, while 200 active ones may face termination

Time to throw up a bat signal for a specific skillset for @skypeascientist.bsky.social

We have a classroom that is looking for a scientist who can do a session with them in ASL.

Do we know any scientists who would be willing to do a Q&A with a deaf classroom in ASL?

So sad to hear about the passing of Stan Sander. He was an incredible scientist, but also a really kind and nice person.
@NASA and @caltech.edu kineticist extraordinaire Stan Sander died Saturday night surrounded by his family. Stan was a kind mentor, inventive scientist and engineer. He will be sorely missed by me and many colleagues around the world.
