Excellent analysis of this unfolding horror show
What you’re witnessing is a populist assault on the BBC.

This is not an institutional scandal in any meaningful sense of the word. It is an attack on public service broadcasting.

Clearly a solution to the mobility problems brought by Brexit is to rejoin . However, the challenge is what is the best route to do this ? Rebuilding trust & demonstrating the benefits of a close relationship with the EU through liberal mobility is one way.

The Caerphilly result is what we need to see everywhere at the next election: people coordinating to vote tactically for parties which seek a fairer, kinder, greener country.
Pushing out both those who have betrayed our trust AND those who seek to exploit that betrayal.

I love the “at the scene” by the reporter’s byline here.

We’ve sent someone to stand behind a police cordon line, several hundred metres away from where the jewels no longer are, several hours after the action happened. But he’s AT THE SCENE!
Films: We need to hack a keycard, obtained by seducing one of the guards. We then need to drop in from the skylight after jumping from a plane, and dodge all of the lasers and traps, carefully switching the jewels for fakes that weigh the same to avoid tripping the alarm.

We flounced out of the EU on the say-so of politicians who lied to us. And what a total shitshow that’s turned out to be. The polar opposite of what they promised. Now the call to flounce out of the ECHR. By the same people. Telling the same lies. Has the country been kicked in the head by a horse?

People like Pinochet used to 'disappear' people. They ended up being thrown alive out of aeroplanes over the Pacific Ocean & the Atacama. In Trump's America, people like Miller are capable of ordering that.
It’s easy to say that this is the last desperate hurrah of a dying party, but can we be clear: Trump’s ICE agents are literally kidnapping people, detaining them without due process in concentration camps (yes, this is the right term) and 1000s have disappeared. These are fascist practices.

The question is not so much "How do we significantly reduce immigration?" but rather "What happens if we significantly reduce immigration?"
@iandunt.bsky.social lays out the answer clearly.
Reform will apparently pledge today that they'd abolish indefinite leave to remain - including retrospectively, to people already granted it. Obviously this is a moral abomination but it is also a practical and legal impossibility.
