I think certain councilmembers ignore people who were brutalized or wrongly arrested during protests because they don't fit some respectability profile, but the comments today have been a litany of people's stories about police abuses they've experienced personally.

Hollingsworth says there's rampant "misinformation" about SPD surveillance cameras. As one of the "bloggers" I assume she's addressing, I've never claimed the footage is widely shared within SPD; the issue many have raised is that internal controls are irrelevant in the face of federal demands.

There are REAL, LEGITIMATE concerns about police surveillance cameras, including whether police should be surveilling residents at all and whether the Trump Admin will weaponize the footage. Dismissing this as "misinformation" by "blogs" and social media is ignoring valid, explicit concerns.

I think elected officials lose credibility when they blame other people for opposition to programs they support, like police surveillance—especially when those people are explicitly pointing out that the problem with filming Seattle residents is that federal officials can demand and use the footage.
