Someone else said it but it bears repeating:

"The Muppet Christmas Carol" is the best movie ever because Michael Caine treats the Muppets as fellow, human actors.

"Muppet Treasure Island" is the best movie ever because Tim Curry treats himself as a Muppet.

This Georgia flip is in a district that the GOP drew to drown Democratic voters in Athens into a neighboring red county, Oconee.

But tonight, Dems in Athens were out in FULL FORCE to swamp that gerrymander.

Final vote on SPOG contract:

Yes: Kettle, Rivera, Strauss, Hollingsworth, Juarez, Nelson
No: Lin, Rinck, Saka

The SPOG contract passes on a 6-3 vote.

Alexis Mercedes Rinck, who's voting no, says "this contract doesn't deliver on accountability." She notes several accountability failures, including the requirement that a sworn officer lead misconduct investigations and the fact that misconduct requires an elevated standard to prove.

I think certain councilmembers ignore people who were brutalized or wrongly arrested during protests because they don't fit some respectability profile, but the comments today have been a litany of people's stories about police abuses they've experienced personally.

I also went back and looked at Joy Hollingsworth’s answers to Hacks & Wonks Lightning Round questions about what she would or wouldn’t support in a SPOG contract:

another one. concerned about the fascist takeover of local law enforcement apparatus that we see happening every day in this country? sorry you've just been misinformed by blogs.

Hollingsworth says there's rampant "misinformation" about SPD surveillance cameras. As one of the "bloggers" I assume she's addressing, I've never claimed the footage is widely shared within SPD; the issue many have raised is that internal controls are irrelevant in the face of federal demands.

The media is (or should be) by its nature, adversarial. The idea that people should get all their information from official government agents, and distrust all media as potential "misinformation," is obviously troubling.

Maritza Rivera says if the city doesn't communicate directly (in this case, about police surveillance cameras), then people will rely on "misinformation" or "no information." The contempt for the press and the public who have legitimate, well-informed concerns is palpable on this council.

There are REAL, LEGITIMATE concerns about police surveillance cameras, including whether police should be surveilling residents at all and whether the Trump Admin will weaponize the footage. Dismissing this as "misinformation" by "blogs" and social media is ignoring valid, explicit concerns.

I think elected officials lose credibility when they blame other people for opposition to programs they support, like police surveillance—especially when those people are explicitly pointing out that the problem with filming Seattle residents is that federal officials can demand and use the footage.

Hunt lays out the number of "crime events" caught on camera or where camera footage was used later. "For me the important thing was that we've been able to assist over 1,000 victims" with the cameras, he said, without providing evidence that SPD couldn't have investigated without surveillance.

Lee Hunt, Police Chief Shon Barnes' ED of Crime and Community Harm Reduction, is once again assuring the council that the 62 new SPD surveillance cameras are only accessible by specific personnel and not accessible outside the system. Won't matter if Trump Administration demands the footage!

7. Healthcare coverage is essential for trans people. While many transition-related medications are generic and not especially costly, required lab work can quickly put care out of reach for anyone on a tight budget. For transgender people who need surgery, the financial barriers are even steeper.
