He is simply a racist, surrounded by racists. I cannot imagine a single scenario in which I listen to that without objecting loudly.
here's Trump's full racist rant about MN's Somali community: "Somalians ripped off that state for billions. And they contribute nothing... Ilhan Omar is garbage. She's garbage. Her friends are garbage. These aren't people that work... They come from hell & do nothing but bitch. We don't want them"

A depraved and decadent Trump WH dinner for MBS was a stunning low for an American ruling class that's stopped pretending to carry a moral compass

It was really a celebration of death - of democracy, of an overheating planet, and ultimately themselves. My new column www.inquirer.com/opinion/ceos...

Elon Musk donated $277 million to Trump so he could steal the federal government’s data, dismantle the nation’s infrastructure, and stop foreign aid from going to nonwhite people. It’s a quid pro quo breathtaking in scope, corruption, and damage, & completely unprecedented in American history.
Bye bye, “DOGE”.

It no longer exists as a “centralized entity”, according to the Office of Personnel Management.

Trump has ordered the murders of over 80 people via unlawful military strikes in the Caribbean. It's clear here how he thinks about state power, violence, and murder. And that attitude will not stay only outside the US's borders....
Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

"he will continue teaching" is a decision that says a lot about what Harvard and higher ed think about the work of teaching. It is a "public commitment". It requires "trust" and "relationships."
Larry Summers tells @theharvardcrimson.bsky.social
he’s stepping back from all public commitments in light of his messages with Epstein, saying he is “deeply ashamed” and hopes “to rebuild trust and repair relationships.”

He will continue teaching.

@govpritzker.illinois.gov I want you to watch this video of me slammed to the ground- why are you allowing this to happen to people you know are on the right side of history. They tied my hands behind my back and when I asked them to be loosened because I was going numb they said, “STFU.”
at one point, i watched a cook county sheriff’s officer (who appears to be in charge) point out a priest in the crowd.

he and a couple officers then went into the crowd , dragged him into the street, and arrested him.

situation is still tense as crowd jostles with police to get into the street.

BREAKING: At Pope Leo XIV’s urging, U.S. Catholic bishops just delivered the strongest rebuke of a sitting president in Church history — condemning Trump-Vance raids as “inhumane” and “dehumanizing” in a 216–5 vote.
NEW: At Pope Leo’s Urging, Bishops Issue Historic Rebuke of Trump’s Raids
Nearly all U.S. Catholic bishops united in Baltimore to denounce the Trump administration’s “inhumane” deportation campaign — a near-unanimous, unprecedented moral stand against a sitting president.

October before last, I was in Montreal listening to a cover band, and using all 74 of my French words to talk to this other guy at the bar, and I shut him down when he got going on Epstein. Apparently, I owe that Quebecker an apology. déso, mon ami. Tu avais raison.

I first noticed that the logical structure of his argument is the same as that of Kaine and the other collaborators, then I saw that the real argument is about a felt affiliation: the collaborators with the Senators of Fascism, and here Whitehouse with those same collaborators.
The sooner we get past internal recriminations and back to fighting united, the better off we all are — the likelier our victory next November.

One analytical model shows that, as of November 5th, the dismantling of U.S.A.I.D. has already caused the deaths of 600,000 people, two-thirds of them children. https://newyorkermag.visitlink.me/jUzNSc

Canada budget update: A $2.7bn cut to international assistance over 5 years, or about 10-12% of the budget. Particularly focusing on global health, which is worrying because it's a core Canadian priority

Not sure we need a resurgence of polio on top of everything, but what do I know
What I'm looking for in the Canadian federal budget: Development

- Canada's budget for international stuff is complex. There's the International Assistance Envelope, OECD-measured ODA, plus stuff that falls under Canada's own Act. Plus provincial spending. They all overlap

This argument is exactly the same as was made by enslavers before the Civil War. The Slave Power feared being out of power so much that they justified obviously immoral things like enslavement of about 4 million persons and here the disenfranchisement of about 4 million citizens.
Johnson: "If they had no filibuster, they would pack the SCOTUS. You'd go from 9 to 17 or however many liberals they could pack. You would make DC & Puerto Rico into states, which would give 4 additional Democrat senators & make us a permanent minority. You'd see massive restrictions of 2A rights"
